Dinosaur Fighting Games: 4 Best So Far & The Worst

When I was a youngster I loved two things a lot. Dinosaurs and fighting games. Back in the ’90s, there was a lot of hate against violent video games. I’m so glad my parents let me enjoy 2D fighting games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, and Primal Rage. Speaking of Primal Rage it wasn’t the best fighting game around. But I always had a soft spot for it because 2D dinos fighting against each other is just so awesome.

In this article, I decided to revisit a part of my childhood and list the best Dinosaur fighting games I could find. I also found a few games for kids and a few really horrible games worth mentioning.

4. Fighting In Jurassic World Evolution (PC, Xbox One, PS4)

This really isn’t a fighting game. Jurassic World Evolution is a dinosaur tycoon game where you get to raise and grow your own dinosaur park. One of the cool features in this game is the ability to fight different dinosaurs together. You can’t actually control the dinosaur fighting though. For an example, you can stick a T-Rex against 3 velociraptors together. You can’t control the outcome of the battle but you can watch what happens. Since the graphics are nice it’s a joy to watch these multi-species dinosaur battles.

3. Primal Rage 2 (PC MAME4RAGE Emulator )

– Download It Here
Primal Rage 2 is the unreleased sequel to the popular Primal Rage fighting game. Thanks to emulation this game was recently brought to life again using a special version of the MAME emulator. The emulator is called MAME4RAGE2 and allows you to play a nearly finished version of Primal Rage 2 rom dump. The game is pretty good. I like that you fight as human giants that can transform into a specific dinosaur. This game has a better combat system than the original game. It’s actually really fun to play once you know the moves and combos. Sadly the game is a little unfinished. It lacks fatalities and stages.

2. Primal Rage (Arcade, PC MAME)

Primal Rage was never as good as other 2D fighting games of 1990’s. It was overshadowed by Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Killer Instinct. It wasn’t bad though. I was 9 years old when it released. It was exciting to see a new mainstream arcade fighter based on dinosaurs. Primal Rages characters, graphics, and backgrounds are impressive. The combo system is lacking when compared to rival games of the era. Love it or hate it, Primal Rage will always hold a nostalgic place in my heart.
– Primal Rage Also Released On:
Arcade, 3DO, Amiga, MS-DOS, Sega Genesis, Sega Game Gear, Game Boy, SNES, Atari Jaguar CD, PlayStation, Sega 32X, Sega Saturn

1. Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee (Gamecube, Xbox)

I know half of the Godzilla fans out there probably wouldn’t consider Godzilla and franchise monsters to be dinosaurs. Even Godzilla’s creators have never denied Godzilla monsters being dinosaurs. They are described as prehistoric monsters mutated by nuclear radiation. Dinosaurs or not, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is a great fighting game. Both versions on Gamecube and the OG Xbox are worth playing. The OG Xbox version did have 2 more playable characters and better graphics though. Monsters fighting in a city has never been so cool.

* Best Dinosaur Fighting Games For Kids *

While the following games are fun, I found them to be shallow experiences. However, these were the best Dinosaur fighting Games available on Google Play and Apple Store. Younger kids aged 9 and under might enjoy them.

Dinosaur Fighting Evolution 3D (Android)

Ninja Kung Fu Dino Fighting 3D (Android, IOS)

Dinosaurs Fighters (Android)

* Terrible Dinosaur Fighting Games That Made Me Laugh *

The Worst Dinosaur Fighting games ever created. Judge for yourself. These games are horrible, lol.

Warpath: Jurassic Park (PS1)

When I first read about this in a Game Pro Magazine I was hyped. A 3D Tekken style dinosaur game based on Jurassic Park sounded awesome. Too bad it was very disappointing. The graphics were horrible, gameplay was boring. Oh well, wish it was better.

Dino Rex (Arcade, PC MAME)

This game actually came out 2 years before Primal Rage. At first glance, it looks like a horrible Primal Rage knockoff. As bad as this game is, Primal Rage was definitely inspired by it.

Dino Wars (Amiga)

Old or not this is a terrible game. How much more simple could this game be? It feels like a horrible demo.

Cretaceous Carnage (PC)

Since this is an indie game I can’t be too harsh. It is certainly better than anything I could ever create. Those folding dinosaur animations though!! lol xD.
