A Look At Leatherface Video Games

Leatherface is the main character from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” horror films. He is a brutal serial killer that’s known for wielding a Chainsaw and wearing his victim’s skin as a mask. Even though Leatherface is one of the more popular horror characters, there hasn’t been too many video games based on him or the films. Recently Leatherface has been featured as a playable DLC character in a few games. This article looks at all official and notable fan games Leatherface has appeared in. When new games are released, this article will be updated.

1. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Atari 2600)

The official Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game was released for the Atari 2600 in 1982. This is the only official Texas Chainsaw Massacre game ever released. This is also one of the first horror-themed video games created. Playing as Leatherface the object of the game is to murder as many innocent female victims as possible before your chainsaw runs out of fuel. Every kill earns you a whopping 1,000 points. The concept of this game is brutal and was very controversial back in 1982. I could never take this game seriously though, because of how horrible it is from a design point of view. The graphics are ugly, controls are clunky, gameplay becomes repetitive quickly, and Leatherface’s Chainsaw is blue, matching his t-shirt. I have never seen Leatherface wear a blue t-shirt in any of the movies???, WTH lol. Overall this is one of the worst Atari 2600 games ever made and a disgrace to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre name.

* Leatherface Made Playable Appearances In These Games! *

The following games are not based around Leatherface, but they do feature him as a playable character.

– Mortal Kombat XL (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Leatherface first appeared as a special character in the Mortal Kombat X fighting game as part of the DLC pack 2. He later appeared in the extended Mortal Kombat “XL” version as a default character along with other previous DLC characters. Mortal Kombat XL provides the most realistic representation of Leatherface in any video game so far. Everything from his character design, basic fighting moves, and fatalities reminds me of his film persona.

– Dead by Daylight (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

In September of 2017, Leatherface was added as playable DLC character to the murderer vs survivors (1 vs 4) online multiplayer game Dead by Daylight. Leatherface is my favorite DLC character in Dead by Daylight. He runs and moves sluggishly slow, but makes up for it with his 3 unique easy to use perks including “Knock Out”, “Barbecue & Chili”, and “Franklin’s Demise”. If you ever plan on playing Dead by Daylight, be sure to pick up Leatherface as a DLC character. For a couple of extra bucks this DLC is worth purchasing.

Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen is a free fan created 2D fighting game. Terrordrome’s playable character roster includes famous horror characters from different movies. Leatherface is part of the roster. As a 2D character the developers did a great job mimicking Leatherface’s movie persona. He’s slow, but powerful with attacks, and a great character to use once you learn his combat moves.
