Best Dinosaur Games On PS4 Or Xbox One So Far

When I was a kid I loved a few dinosaur games. Like Primal Rage, a bloody fighting game that featured giant apes and dinosaurs battling against each other in prehistoric environments. There was also an amazing survival horror dinosaur series I loved for the PS1 called Dino Crisis. I realized recently that PS4 and Xbox one have a good amount of dinosaur or dinosaur inspired games already available. I might as well create an updated list of the best dinosaur games available on PS4 or Xbox One so far!

6. Primal Carnage: Extinction (PS4 Exclusive)

#6 Primal Carnage Extinction
– See It On Amazon
Primal Carnage: Extinction is a fun online multiplayer only first-person shooter, with humans versus dinosaur gameplay. The player can choose from 5 human characters, all have different weapons and stat abilities. The player can also play as 5 different classes of dinosaurs that have there own strengths and weaknesses. For the humans I personally love playing as the Pyromaniac, there is nothing like lighting giant dino’s on fire! For the dinosaurs, I love playing as the biggest dinosaur in the game, the Tyrannosaurus Rex of course. The game features 15 maps to battle at. There are 3 modes of play including Team Deathmatch, Survival, and Get To The Chopper. Get to the chopper is a neat mode where the human’s team has to try to complete a few objectives, while the opposing dinosaur team tries to stop them. Overall this is a fun multiplayer experience. It’s not amazing and there are some balancing issues, but it’s a worthy one to play if you are craving some multiplayer dinosaur action.

5. Lego Jurassic World

#5 Lego Jurassic Park
– See It On Amazon: PS4 | Xbox One
Lego Jurassic World is the best dinosaur game for kids on this list. The game takes place during the events of all 4 current Jurassic movies, so if you are a fan of the movies you will love the scenes featured here. Lego Jurassic world has a decent lengthen campaign with a lot of Dino action and easy puzzles to solve. The highlight of this package is the ability to unlock 20 different dinosaur species and play as all of them. There is even free play areas where you can test out dinos at a relaxing pace, learn how to use them, or just ride them around for fun. It’s an even more fun game if you have a someone to play with.

4. Turok & Turok 2: Seeds of Evil (Xbox One Exclusives)

#4 Turok and Turok 2: Seeds Of Evil
– See Them On Xbox One Marketplace
As a kid, I loved Turok: The Dinosaur Hunter for the Nintendo 64. I was surprised to see the PC remastered versions of Turok and Turok 2 being released for the Xbox One out of nowhere. These remastered versions are pretty much the same games with a polished coat compared to the N64 versions. They both run at 1080P resolution, locked 60fps and have higher quality textures. These are both must plays if you are looking for a great first-person shooter campaign, and don’t mind aged gameplay and graphics. You will play as a native American named Turok, a time traveling-warrior. I personally loved Turok 1 for its level design, enemies and bosses. Turok 2 was better in all other aspects, especially story, graphics, and gameplay. If you have never played either of these games and are seeking dino shooting action, give these a go.

3. ARK: Survival Evolved

#3 ARK Survival Evolved
– See It On Amazon: PS4 | Xbox One
ARK: Survival Evolved is an impressive dinosaur game, but it’s not for everyone. What I like most about ARK is the free roam aspect and the ability to make gameplay choices. Playing as a man or woman, you will be stranded on an island forced to hunt, gather goods, grow crops, craft items, research items and build shelters in order to survive. On this island, there are tons of small, large, peaceful, and human eating dinosaurs. You can choose to fight and kill dinosaurs or tame them. You will be able to ride most larger dinosaurs that are tamed. The faults of Ark comes down to playability. The frame rate is bad on both PS4 and XBox One, if you own a PS4 Pro or an Xbox One X, framerate is better on high-performance settings, but it’s still not perfect. Also, the online servers have been having issues for the longest time already. Luckily Ark is still fun to play offline. Overall Ark is an amazing game with beautiful graphics, but on the performance side of things is not so great. Personally, I love playing ARK and so do my kids, but I can see the technical faults hampering the experience for some gamers. If you can look past the technical issues, ARK is a one of a kind gameplay experience.

2. Monster Hunter World

#2 Monster Hunter World
– See It On Amazon: PS4 | Xbox One
A lot of Monster Hunter series fans are probably going to be mad because I labeled Monster Hunter World as a Dinosaur game when clearly the title says “Monster” Hunter. The small creatures running around, enemies, and bosses all look like modified lizards, dinosaurs or dragons to me. If they are not dinosaurs, many of these monster designs were greatly inspired by them. Monster Hunter world is the best and largest game in the series yet. You will play as a hunter on a quest to hunt down many difficult monsters in various habitats. When you take down these dinosaurs, I mean “Monsters” you will recover materials that can be used to upgrade weapons and armor. As your character becomes stronger he/she will be able to take down even tougher monsters. The perfect game to play if you love questing through amazing environments, upgrading, and hunting down all kinds of impressive monsters!

1. Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4 Exclusive)

#1 Horizon Zero Dawn
– See It On Amazon
Guerrilla Games, the creators of Horizon Zero Dawn wanted to create an ambitious open-world action game that’s centered around survival and fighting cybernetic like dinosaurs. Mission accomplished, Horizon Zero dawn not only has amazing cybernetic dinosaur enemies, but it’s one of the best games for the PS4 so far. Horizon Zero Dawn takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where technology is advanced but the way of living is primitive. You will play as a female character known as Aloy. She is a hunter on a quest to save her tribe and destroy these cybernetic beasts. Horizon has a superb main story campaign, but the side quests are also awesome. Players will upgrade and craft weapons to defeat harder enemies, meet groups of interesting characters, and choose to attack aggressively or stalk enemies stealthily. If you feel like hunting down cybernetic animals and dinosaurs, Horizon Zero Dawn is the only choice.

* Honorable Mentions *

Dino Frontier (PSVR) – A wild west building game with strategy elements, surrounded by dinosaurs. A PlayStation virtual reality exclusive. I have never played it, but I heard it’s pretty good.
Robinson: The Journey (PSVR) – A beautiful virtual reality dinosaur game created by Crytek, it’s sadly more of a tech demo with terrible controls than anything else.
Jurassic Park: The Game ( Xbox 360 Game, Backwards Compatible On Xbox One) – Created by popular story games developer Telltale games. I remember playing this on the Xbox 360 years ago. It was pretty good, but probably not as good as the developers newer material. For Jurassic movies/games fans, this is probably a must play.
Evolve: Ultimate Edition – A Co-Op multiplayer only game where you can play as a monster ( they look like dinosaurs) or humans. The gameplay was addicting. Loved playing like a monster, hunting down online human friends, it was a blast. The biggest problem with evolution is that hardly anyone is playing it anymore and publisher 2K games decided to unleash so many DLC’s too early, so everyone gave up on it. If you can pick up the ultimate edition (Includes most all the DLC) for cheap and have friends to play with, I say go for it!
GOD Eater 2 – Never played it, but I heard it’s packed with content and very similar to Monster Hunter games. From the looks of it, many of the enemies look like dinosaurs.
The Last Guardian ??? – This is a fantastic puzzle game with a great story about a friendship between a boy and a beast. The beast is named Trico, he’s not a dinosaur, more of a giant half bird, half rat looking animal. Trico kind of reminded me of a dinosaur though, so I thought this game deserved a mention at least.

* Most Anticipated Dinosaur Games Coming Soon *

– Jurassic World Evolution
Release Date: Q3 or Q4 2018

The Jurassic World building games on mobile devices are pretty good. Jurassic World Evolution is looking amazing so far.
